With the news that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is in development, it is an exciting update for fans of Insomniac Games’ take on our favourite web-slinger.
However, with not many details outside of a development announcement, fans are starting to worry about what this may mean for the PlayStation 5.

As a PlayStation exclusive, 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, 2020’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and 2023’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have all been released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and with the most recent entry even welcoming a patch for the PlayStation 5 Pro.

Now that the Insomniac Games’ titles are available across the PS Store and on PC, it seems as though the studio has turned its attention to yet another entry: Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.
However, with development reportedly in the very early stages, it could be many years until it is released which begs the question as to which console it will be launched on.
We already have reports that Sony is working on the PlayStation 6 in the background and with the PS5 about to celebrate its fifth anniversary, this could mean that the next Marvel’s Spider-Man entry could be released on the next-gen console.
That being said, with yet another big console release being unattainable for some fans, this potential next-gen release has left them feeling divided.

In a discussion which took place over on r/SpiderManPS4, one user revealed that they thought it was a “high chance Spider-Man 3 might be a next-gen (PS6) launch title.”
It wasn’t long before the comments came flooding in.
“Spider-Man 3 is definitely a PS6 game. But they haven’t used the full power of the PS5. No game has.
The only game studios that will are Rockstar and Naughty Dog,” user brandonjtellis_ commented.

However, user deep_fried_cheese is feeling more optimistic.
“I know it’s hard to say now but I really don’t see how SM3 will make another jump like SM2 did after the 1st game.
SM2 is already super fluid and looks great but the only real change they could make is 4k60, but the PS5 Pro will probably be able to do that, maybe better ray tracing?”
With Insomniac Games keeping information close to its chests, it may be a while before we learn which console the highly-anticipated sequel will be released on.
