If you’re looking for a few Xbox games to pass the time, then look no further. Best of all, you won’t need an Xbox Game Pass subscription to play them.

Xbox Game Pass is arguably the best Netflix-like subscription service in the video game industry, offering tons of games to play for a reasonable fee.

Not only does Xbox Game Pass offer hundreds of video games to play in an instant, but depending on the tier you subscribe to, you can even play first-party launch games on day one, such as the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day.

However, as fantastic as Xbox Game Pass can be, sometimes it’s nice to check out a free game that won’t cost us a penny, for example, playable demos.

In my opinion, playable demos are often the best way to see if a game is for you, rather than splashing our cash and potentially wasting money instead of giving a game a trial run first.

With that in mind, here are five free Xbox demos that you can check out right now:

  • Alchemist: Journey of the Soul: “Travel through unique areas, uncover memories and use them to craft powerful potions. Unlock special abilities and solve puzzles in a mysterious world. Will your soul survive this journey?”
  • Space Adventure Cobra - The Awakening: “Dive into the universe of 'Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening' and get a taste of level 3-1 through its exclusive demo! Explore a shady cemetery, venture into a crypt filled with ancient creatures, and use your skills to escape the Space Pirate Guild!”
  • Day of the Shell: “Is a fast-paced tactical roguelite, where each turn is played in a single click. The gods have brought down their wrath on humanity, and only a few remote islands remain. A lonely monster huntress has risen to challenge and appease the gods, travelling through what's left of the world.”
  • Coffee Talk Tokyo: “Is the newest instalment of the beloved coffee brewing and heart-to-heart talking simulator. It brings the warmth, heart, and delicious drinks from the previous games to an all-new café in Tokyo where humans and yokai alike share their stories.”
  • Edens Zero Trial Version: “This is a 3D action role-playing game based on the space fantasy comic/anime Edens Zero by Hiro Mashima, the creator of Fairy Tail and Rave Master. It is centred on Shiki Granbell and his friends' cosmos-spanning adventure.”

So, there you have it, those are just five playable demos that you can check out for free today on Xbox without a Game Pass subscription.
