It’s officially the year of the RPG. Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield releasing within a couple of weeks of one another? That is both a crime and a delicious treat.
I’m sure many of you are struggling with thoughts of, ‘How am I going to fit in playing both?’ but it’s a lovely little struggle to have. Surely both are major GOTY contenders, alongside titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and potentially Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Baldur’s Gate 3 players have been enjoying the release on PC for a while now, but it was only yesterday that Larian Studios’ latest landed on PS5. It’s garnered a near-perfect review score from critics, but that’s not all. Baldur’s Gate 3 is, at the time of writing, the highest-rated PlayStation 5 game of all-time. Dayum.
Take a look at Baldur’s Gate 3 in action below.
A quick trip over to Metacritic reveals that Baldur’s Gate 3 is the highest-rated PS5 game of all-time with a juicy score of 97. That’s followed by Elden Ring (96), The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition (94), God of War: Ragnarök (94), Hades (93), Tetris Effect: Connected (93), Resident Evil 4 (93), Demon’s Souls (92), Street Fighter 6 (92), and Persona 5 Royal (91).

I’m sure you, like me, are quite shocked at the low number of Sony first-party releases in that top 10. The Last of Us Part I is ranked 22nd, followed by Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in 23rd. Horizon Forbidden West sits at 27th, with Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut in 29th, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales in 58th. Not what you’d expect, but that’s what the numbers say.
It’s a deserved win for Baldur’s Gate 3. I think many of us PS5 owners are keen to see what’s next for the console. We’ve got Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on the way which is very exciting, but what then? We have no clue what Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, and Naughty Dog are working on and that’s just to name a few examples. Let us in on your secrets, PlayStation.
