With a franchise as expansive as The Lord of the Rings, it makes sense that we’d be blessed with a plethora of video games and one fan-favourite game has received a stunning Unreal Engine 5 remake.
If you ask any Lord of the Rings fan, each will likely provide a different answer as to which is the best video game. I’d be torn between The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers or Battle for Middle-Earth, though I do have an appreciation for LEGO The Lord of the Rings.

One game that is considered to be a favourite inspired by the J.R.R Tolkien novels is 2009’s The Lord of the Rings: Conquest which was released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. There was also a port for the Nintendo DS.

“In this exciting, action strategy game, players fight on the side of both Good and Evil in all the biggest battles from The Lord of the Rings movies. The Battlefront format allows them to switch between characters at will, to suit the circumstance or their style, reliving - and even reinventing - the chaotic and engrossing conflicts from the films as they choose how best to tackle their objectives and defeat their enemies,” reads the description of the game.
Sadly, The Lord of the Rings: Conquest isn't available to buy anymore, at least digitally. Luckily, you can buy it second-hand for a cheap price if you’re willing to shop about, though its online multiplayer servers have long shut down.
If you can't be bothered to track down a physical copy of the game but want to see what all the fuss is about, you can always check out a variety of playthroughs on YouTube or as is the topic of today’s article, admire this stunning Unreal Engine 5 remake from Digital Dreams.

The remake in question takes full advantage of a suped-up modern-day gaming PC powered by NVIDIA RTX 4090 in glorious 4K. If The Lord of the Rings: Conquest was ever to make a comeback, I hope it would look as good as this.
