The Fallout: Vault 1080 mod turns Fallout 4 into a survival horror, and it’s scarily brilliant.
As it’s set in a post-apocalyptic hellscape, where ordinary creatures warp into terrifying monsters through radiation poisoning, the Fallout series isn’t short of horrifying moments.
Bethesda's new IP Starfield is out now, check out our review below!
While Fallout has never leaned too heavily into the scares, it has dabbled in the odd bit of terror, typically through some creepy vaults with disturbing lore of monster infestations. You’re not even safe wandering the surface either, as there’s a whole horde of twisted beasts ready to turn you inside out, from Deathclaws to gigantic creepy crawlies.

Modders took one look at the messed up stuff Bethesda included in their games and thought “we can do better”, which leads us to Fallout: Vault 1080, a mod that introduces four brand new areas, a new questline to follow, and some superb lighting effects.
Created by Ex0dus13, the mod’s description reads: “NVIDIA's Vault 1080 mod leads you through a foggy, murky marsh to the ruins of an old church. Bright shafts of light guide you through the shadows to Vault 1080, which contains three large levels of buried secrets and hidden horrors. Uncover the story of a misguided congregation that embraced darkness and sickness in order to survive, and judge for yourself whether monsters deserve salvation.”
Glancing at the screenshots tells you every you need to know, as the mod boasts some jaw-dropping lighting that turns the game into a truly horrifying experience, especially when you’re stuck in the dark.
Players will explore decrepit structures filled with monsters that you probably won’t see at first glance if you don’t have something to light your way, meaning they’ll need to stay on their toes and check every corner to survive the quest.

It’s truly an impressive creation, and one that adds an entirely new perspective to Fallout. If you’re looking for another mod with similar horror vibes, look no further than Fallout: Whispering Hills, which takes its inspiration from Silent Hill and fills the game with cryptids.
Fallout: Vault 1080 can be downloaded right now via NexusMods.
