Much like other soulslike games, Elden Ring keeps on growing as its fandom continues to expand on its already vast environment.
That's even though FromSoftware is working on Elden Ring Nightreign, a standalone adventure set within the same universe but one that is not a direct sequel.
I realise most of you reading this will be aware of that detail, but it bears repeating.

While new adventures beckon in the not too distant future, the modding community isn’t finished with Elden Ring just yet.
It’s well traversed map has received a surprise expansion, one which is totally free to download.
Sit back and enjoy the Elden Ring Nightreign trailer.
Back in 2023, a mod was created by Harmonixer that gave Elden Ring’s map a much needed update; it’s called ‘Map for Goblins’.

Having proven popular with PC players, another developer has since improved on what the original download offered.
NexusMods user faber88 is behind ‘Map for Goblins Expanded’.
As the name suggests, this builds on the solid foundations of the first mod to deliver an enhanced map UI.
“Map for Goblins Expanded is a revamped version of the original Map for Goblins mod,” faber88 explains. “Display unique loot icons on the Elden Ring map, complemented by some insights such as enemy weaknesses and talisman effects.”

Despite being in its infancy – it was created in early January – feedback has been predominately positive.
This quote-unquote “amazing mod” allows you to toggle on icons for unique items from both the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree.
Other additions worthy of note are “hostile NPC icons from NPC fight events”, as well as “a description [...] indicating their weaknesses and/or their lower resistance” for enemies.
A thorough breakdown of each new component is available on the map expansion’s NexusMods page.

This “epic mod” won’t make Elden Ring any easier to conquer, but it’ll certainly provide important information previously omitted from the map.
