There are plenty of reasons for Pokémon fans to be excited as we edge nearer to the series' 30th anniversary, but there's one new(ish) release that may well have flown under your radar.
Introducing Pokémon Mythic Silver, an entirely original Pokémon adventure that allows us to head back to Johto to catch new Pokémon, battle new trainers, and experience an entirely new story.
You may already have heard of Mythic Silver. The labour-of-love romhack was released last summer, and has already massively impressed fans craving a classic Pokémon experience. It's based on the Nintendo DS remakes of Gold and Silver, and is, apparently, only the second-ever hack to use the Heart Gold, Soul Silver engine.

"You'll uncover ancient temples and forgotten crypts, facing epic challenges and making crucial decisions that will shape Johto’s future," reads the game's description. "Along the way, you'll build special connections with your Legendary Pokémon, gaining new abilities to confront the looming threat."
The game's main features include a completely overhauled map, reworked graphics and sprites, Pokémon you wouldn't usually find in Pokémon Soul Silver, and a much greater difficulty level.
Based on some of the comments I've seen, this one is not for fans looking for a more casual experience. You've been warned.
"This looks incredible," one fan wrote under the game's release trailer.

Another added: "Multi generational graphics is pretty f***ing cool."
As with any romhack created by one fan with a vision, Mythic Silver has a few bugs and issues that you'll have to be willing to overlook going in. If you can accept it isn't going to be an extremely polished experience, you're likely to have a belter of a time with this adventure.
