After months, no, years, of speculation, it would seem that more uncertainty is on the horizon for GTA VI players. Fans have once again deep-dived into theories regarding release dates for the game, with all the evidence seemingly pointing at a 2025 timeframe; arguably, not the kind of date fans want.
The date theory comes from a Redditor who read an interview with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in which Zelnick mentioned “a significant inflection point in fiscal 2025”. For those who don’t speak business – of which I’m among – an inflection point refers to a dramatic turning point in a company. Naturally, when GTA VI launches, it will cause a ruckus (see: fans go wild).

It’s a good working theory, especially since these last few weeks have been barren in terms of trailer announcements. Still, as with all rumours whispered in the name of GTA, they’re just as likely to be fake as they are real. This is why fans are so livid about every “big announcement” Rockstar Games posts, just for them to find it has nothing to do with GTA VI. We’re dining on scraps here, with no sign of a hearty meal around the corner.

Assuming the 2025 release date is true, this means that a trailer won’t see the light of day until 2024, as suggested by thewomanoftomorrow, “It sounds like a GTA VI reveal trailer with a 2024 release date is in the cards then.” Another Redditor agreed, saying “September/Oct 2024 is my guess”, before adding that they anticipate it to be “delayed into Jan/Feb 2025”. Ah, faith in Rockstar is strong...
Rockstar could choose to launch a smaller version of GTA VI sooner, as suggested by a leak, with expansion content coming in the form of DLC. However, whether fans would welcome such a move is another matter entirely – my guess is they wouldn’t. Either way, the release date isn’t just uncertain, it’s slipping further away every day.
The thing is, even if GTA VI is a massive flop, it’ll still break records. “It [GTA VI] could be 1/100 on Metacritic and still break records. GTA VI is likely up there as one of the most anticipated games of all time, ain’t no way this game isn’t one of the fastest sellers of all time,” said ToothlessFTW, and boy oh boy, are they not wrong.
