Bethesda has confirmed Fallout 5 is apparently years away, scheduled after Elder Scrolls 6 which is only just entering pre-production.
Todd Howard has confirmed Fallout 5 is in the pipeline at Bethesda, but warns fans who want to explore yet another post-apocalyptic wasteland will have a long wait ahead of them.
Check out the gameplay trailer for the upcoming Bethesda RPG, Starfield below.
The developer is currently hyper-focused on its new IP Starfield, which is just weeks away from its exclusive launch on Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms. Following that, work will commence on The Elder Scrolls VI, which is apparently still in very early development despite receiving a teaser/announcement trailer all the way back in 2018, much to the frustration of fans who are tired of game developers announcing games years before their expected release.

That leaves Fallout 5, which was recently discussed by Bethesda exec Todd Howard, who’s discussed the developers’ slate of games moving forward.
Howard said: "Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well."
No timeframe was given for either of the projects, but if The Elder Scrolls VI is still in the early stages of development, it’ll likely be a few years until we see it release, nevermind Fallout 5 which is probably just a concept at this point. Even Todd Howard himself doesn’t know if he’ll be working on Fallout 5, believing that the time it’ll take to make Elder Scrolls VI will mark the end of his work at Bethesda.
There’s also reason to believe both of the future projects will accompany Starfield as Xbox exclusives, which is a decision that will surely upset PlayStation fans, who have been campaigning to bring Starfield to their platform of choice.

Unfortunately, The Elder Scrolls and Fallout fans seemingly have a long wait ahead of them. Luckily, the community are still fairly content with replaying previous entries like Skyrim and Fallout 4, adding their own additions and improvements through mods.
In the meantime, most of the Bethesda fans are patiently awaiting the release of Starfield, which will launch on the 6th of September later this year.
