It’s quite baffling to think that the first Assassin’s Creed was released 16 years ago in 2007 and since that time, the series has certainly come a long way.
The Assassin’s Creed series began with humble beginnings with its then-lead protagonist Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad who let his assassination skills do the talking and not so much his mouth, unlike his charismatic successor, Ezio Auditore da Firenze. While the Assassin’s Creed series has advanced by leaps and bounds since its inception in 2007, some could still argue that the OG Assassin’s Creed still holds up today 16 years later.

In celebration of its 16th birthday, fans have been talking about the game that launched the Ubisoft series, labelling it as the GOAT. “Assassin's Creed launched 16 years ago today, sparking a long successful series,” said Redditor Lonely-Freedom4986 kicking off the discussion on the thread.

“My favourite video game franchise!” exclaimed CaesarAugustus270. “I loved AC1 then and now. By far the game I've played more often than any other in the series,” replied Glass_Offer_6344. “And, will continue to replay. HUDless, story and themes and getting those perfect ghost assassinations when possible.”

“Still my favourite game in the series. Has the best art direction, the best atmosphere and some of the more challenging combat of the Desmond Saga,” explained Gamersnews32. “Honestly, the simplicity and rawness of this game is what makes me love it so much. What a great foundation this game laid out.”
“I love the franchise. Do wish they'd remake the original game. The graphics aren't bad but the controls....Even just getting the controller to work on a PC to replay the game was annoying. I’d love the original game updated to run/look like AC Mirage would be fantastic,” Chosen_UserName217 said.
The original Assassin’s Creed is out now on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, it is also backwards compatible with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. So if you have a copy of this Ubisoft classic, it will probably look and perform better than you remember.
