Ahead of Skyblivion's launch later this year, Bethesda has gifted the entire modding team with free copies of the official Oblivion remaster. Thanks, Todd.
Skyblivion is a volunteer-run mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that aims to remake the entirety of Oblivion from the ground up. This includes all locations, weapons, armour, and quests from the original game in the updated engine.
The project started in 2012, a year after Skyrim's release, and has been in active development with a volunteer modding team since 2016.
While the project has been going on for a long time, it is finally gearing up for a 1.0 release later this year.

When Bethesda released its own official The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster earlier this week, the response from the Skyblivion team was positive.
"We've been following the buzz surrounding an official remaster of Oblivion," a statement from the team read. "As dedicated Elder Scrolls fans, we are incredibly excited by this prospect."
"Ultimately, 2025 promises to be a remarkable year for fans of Oblivion. We are confident that players will be the true winners, having the opportunity to experience both a community-driven reimagining and a professional, modern version of this beloved game."
Now, Bethesda has gifted free copies of the Oblivion remaster to all members of the Skyblivion team as a show of good faith.

"As massive fans, we're beyond grateful for the generous gift of Oblivion Remastered game keys for our entire modding team! This means so much to us. Thank you for everything, @bethesda.net!"
It's worth noting that Skyblivion and the Oblivion remaster can both exist together.
One is made as a free PC-only mod for a game that is already 14 years old, while the other is an official remaster that can update the aged bits while also reaching a console audience.
In the end, there's no sense of competition between the two projects and no need to compare them. Both the Skyblivion team and Bethesda understand that, in the end, Oblivion fans get to enjoy two cakes this year.
