It did so well in fact that a sequel, Darkest Dungeon 2, arrived in early access in 2021 before releasing fully in 2023.
If you missed out on the original entry, then Nintendo has you covered as Darkest Dungeon is available as a free trial for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers from 20 June to 26 June.
The news was announced via the official Twitter page and read: “More arrive, foolishly seeking fortune and glory in this domain of the damned. Play Darkest Dungeon on Switch for FREE!”
Not only can players try before they buy but they can also access the full title at a much lower price: 70% off the standard edition and 75% off the Ancestral Edition.

Is there a catch? Yes. This offer is only available for Nintendo Switch owners in North America. However, those eligible will be able to earn 100 Platinum Points upon booting up the game.
However, it seems to be worth it as Darkest Dungeon has received a plethora of positive reviews over the years.
One even read: “This game has caused me severe mental anguish. You must try it.”
Another agreed, saying: “My leper who could only gamble for stress relief, ended up having a gambling addiction. 10/10 stress- I mean, I would recommend this game.”
