Cyberpunk 2077 surprise new release teased ahead of official reveal

What could this mean?

Despite CD Projekt RED claiming that development had ceased on Cyberpunk 2077 around this time last year, announcements surrounding the hit RPG continue to leak.

CD Projekt RED may be hard at work on development for The Witcher 4, Cyberpunk 2, and its first original IP, but it seems as though the Poland-based studio is still not done with Cyberpunk 2077.

It is perhaps no surprise as, despite the game launching in a disappointing state back in 2020, the RPG has come on in leaps and bounds and is now widely regarded as one of the best RPGs of all time.

As a result, it seems as though we are not done with Cyberpunk 2077 just yet.

According to prolific leaker eXtas1s on Twitter, an announcement surrounding Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion is about to go live.

Phantom Liberty is Cyberpunk 2077’s first and only DLC and since its release back in 2023, has gone on to receive critical acclaim from critics and players alike.

As of right now, the DLC is available across PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X/S, but this latest rumour could hint at it arriving on another platform.

This comes after extas1s posted a simple screenshot of Phantom Liberty’s cover art to Twitter with the side-eye and fire emoji. Last but not least, they added a clock emoji.

Of course, this could mean anything and fans originally thought that this meant the DLC would be coming to Xbox Game Pass.

However, the leaker denied this which has led to a second theory.

Are Phantom Liberty and Cyberpunk 2077 coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches later this year?

According to users over on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, it is looking likely.

Cyberpunk has been my prediction for Switch 2's Skyrim for like a year now,” one user shared.

“It's Nvidia's showpiece game as well, and CDPR got Witcher 3 on a Switch game card. I would not at all be surprised if we see Cyberpunk 2077 tomorrow.”

User Gert1700 agreed, adding: “This became evident when CDPR announced Virtuos Games would be handling Cyberpunk support, despite earlier claims that support for the game had ended. Hiring Virtuos solely for free updates seems unlikely. A Switch 2 port is a safe bet, possibly bundled with new content at launch.”

With the Nintendo Direct taking place later today, it seems we only have a few hours to find out if this leak is true.
