Ah Half-Life, the iconic first-person shooter series that has had calls for a new game from its loyal fanbase like no other.
The original Half-Life was released in 1998 for PC before arriving on consoles. For many fortunate enough to experience the game at launch, the OG is widely considered to be one of the best video games of all time.

In 2004 expectations were exceeded with its sequel which spawned two equally amazing expansions. There was supposed to be a third expansion that would build the bridge to Half-Life 3, but much like the third numbered entry, that expansion never arrived.

To be fair, gamers were treated to Half-Life: Aylx in 2020, unfortunately, a huge portion of the fanbase was excluded from playing this prequel to HL2 given the fact that it is currently a PC exclusive, and not only demands a high-end PC to run, but also a quality VR headset to boot.
So naturally, console gamers have been calling for Half-Life: Alyx to arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Though if that prequel ever arrived on consoles, the chances are that it will be a PS VR2 exclusive. Yet, we live in hope for a non-VR game in addition. It’s also fair to say that fans have all but given up the hope of ever seeing Half-Life 3.
However, a glimmer of hope for a new Half-Life game has been sparked and potentially leaked via the Gamescom mobile app. That being said, it’s wise to keep our expectations grounded.
“Gamescom possibly leaked a new Half-Life,” said Reddit user ItzDarko42 opening up the discussion on the thread. They continued: “Gamescom has a companion app. In it, you can see a list of exhibitors. In that list, you can find Valve. Valve is not officially confirmed to be at Gamescom yet. If you look at the exhibited brands you can see Half-Life. That could be a mistake of course, but if not, that would be pretty interesting.”

Of course, even though Half-Life is tagged alongside Valve in the app, it’s very likely that it might just be an error. In truth, sadly, that’s the most likely outcome. Still, could we finally have Half-Life 3 announced? Unlikely. Could we finally have a Half-Life: Alyx announcement for consoles? You never know.

In related news, Half-Life 2’s Ravenholm is still hailed as one of gaming’s scariest levels, and we agree. I can still hear the haunting cries of zombies being controlled by the grotesque headcrabs.
Half-Life: Alyx is available now on PC.
