New 'Diablo 4' Gameplay Confirms Final Fan-Favourite Class

We've been dying to know.

The Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 has revealed the fifth and final class coming to Diablo IV - the Necromancer.

Necromancers - a layman's term for the Priests of Rathma - are treated with enormous levels of suspicion by the general populace. I mean, that sort of makes sense, but it's the Necromancers' eerie pragmatism and neutrality towards death that is the most unsettling. In the trailer, the character raises the undead to use as soldiers against their enemies, as well as exploding some corpses, enchanting with blood, and looking absolutely amazing bathed in the green light of their magic.

Check it out for yourself here! Though be sure you've got the stomach for it.

"Players will be able to utilize the Necromancer’s Book of the Dead, an all-new ability for the class, allowing them to dominate the battlefield with deeper customization of their undead army than ever before," read the press release from Activision Blizzard. "Fight with aggressive skeleton Warriors, fast-attacking Skirmishers, sword and board Defenders, or scythe-wielding Reapers." We got to see some of this in action in gameplay taken from an Xbox Series X, and it's looking impressive.

"Unleash a litany of spells with Skeleton Mages, imbuing them with shadow, cold, and sacrificial magics. Deploy tanking Bone Golems, health-stealing Blood Golems, and charging Iron Golems. Or sacrifice them all to absorb their power," continued the explanation for the Necromancer class.

Longtime fans will have raised their eyebrows at the reference to Strongholds, which is a new mechanic that alters your experience of the world. Strongholds are in the possession of enemies, that is, until you ruin their day. Once reclaimed, the Stronghold has the potential to become a friendly outpost and bolster your journeys across the game environments. There are also "almost" 150 dungeons to explore, so it might be worth your while to take on the challenge of liberating a Stronghold.

Diablo IV is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One. Oh, yeah, it confirmed the existence of new-gen versions of the game too in this showcase. Little cherry on the top of the end of the article. You're welcome.
