Dataminers have been scouring the files of Assassin's Creed Mirage and happened to find mentions of the far flung future, which looks to be taking the game to the year 2099.
No, you won't be playing as Spider-Man, but the modern day sections of upcoming Assassin's Creed games may be moving away from their present day adventures, giving us a whole new cast to play with.
Assassin's Creed Red will be set in feudal Japan and feature two protagonists
During the datamining audio clips surfaced that featured two unnamed Animus operators discussing the 21st century as "ancient history." This could mean that the early to mid years of the century happened long ago and they are talking in a future timeframe.

Usually the modern story sections of Assassin's Creed games take place in the year the game was released, however this seems to change that. This comes from Insider Gaming who spoke to anonymous sources and learned that "Assassin's Creed Red will have significant portions of its modern day story set in the last decade of the 21st century (2090-2099)"
Of course, the legitimacy of the clips could mean anything without knowing exactly what the 'insider' said. Many people use the term ancient history as a time frame since something happened in their lives and hyperbole could end up grounding this theory. However, as this is a historical adventure title, it could be very literal.
We'll have to wait and see as Assassin's Creed Red is still some way off, as is the follow up to that, Hexe, which we know even less about. Ubisoft have lots of plans for the franchise, including the Infinite project which will act as a hub for their games and will collect the story in one place, along with access to each game upon release.
