It seems that a most wanted fan favourite Need for Speed game of yesteryear is the next in line for a modern-day makeover.
Not to be confused with the 2012 game of the same name, it looks like Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) is getting a remake after it was accidentally confirmed ahead of schedule.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted was the follow-up to the immensely popular Underground series and was well-received by critics and fans alike with scores ranging from 82 to 8.7 on Metacritic, depending on the platform.

It’s not unusual for publisher Electronic Arts to put out remasters for the Need for Speed series, after all, Hot Pursuit received a remaster in 2021. However, unlike the 2021 remaster, it looks like Most Wanted will be a full remake.
In a post shared on Reddit, Simone Bailly who played Officer Turf in Need for Speed: Most Wanted tweeted: “Need for Speed: Most Wanted Remake is being released in 2024, Like and Comment if you want to see Cross (Dean McKenzie) & his partner (Simone Bailly) hunt down the most wanted”. This tweet was apparently swiftly deleted. For added context, the Cross character that Bailly refers to is Sergeant Jonathan Cross.

However, while some of the Reddit thread like the idea of a Most Wanted remake, many fans are wondering why it seems that EA looks to be ignoring Need for Speed: Underground. “Why not Underground??” asked killakev564. “Wrong game. Should be doing Underground 2,” exclaimed aford92. “In November NFS Underground completes 20 years, not touching it now is a huge mistake,” said gblandro.
Obviously, despite this information originating from a seemingly very reliable source, it’s still worth taking all unconfirmed rumours and speculation with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, if the rumour is true and the Need for Speed: Most Wanted remake is arriving next year, we can perhaps expect an official announcement in the coming months.
