Last night’s PlayStation Showcase was, let’s say, interesting. It didn’t feel much like a PlayStation event at all. Besides the indepth look at Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the vast majority of the event focused on cross-platform releases. In fact, beyond Spider-Man 2, we have very little knowledge of what PlayStation’s upcoming first-party release slate looks like.
It was a successful night though for fans of the Metal Gear Solid series. After months of rumours, a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was finally confirmed in a glossy new trailer. According to Konami, the remake promises to be a “faithful recreation of the original story and game design”. It will update the gameplay in areas though, in addition to adding “stunning visuals and a seamless user experience”. If you’re yet to sample this franchise, MGS3 is actually a prequel and thus comes first in the timeline so it’s the perfect entry to begin with. If you want to check out the full original trilogy though, you’re in luck as the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 was also announced.
Take a look at the brand new trailer for the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater below.
The collection comprises the original versions of Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and is due to arrive in ‘Autumn 2023’. That’s according to the northern hemisphere calendar anyway, so we’re talking September to November for you southern hemisphere folk. The original MGS was released on PS1, while the following two games were products of the PS2 era.
Advert
The collection is said to include HD versions which is assumedly referring to the remasters that were last released on the PlayStation 3. We know for certain that the collection is coming to PS5 consoles. It’s a little murky in terms of other console platforms though. Konami have said “the latest platforms” so you’d think that would include PC and the Xbox Series X/S. We’re awaiting clarity on that.
It looks as if Konami are already teasing a remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4 too. You’re feasting well, MGS fans.
