Marvel’s Spider-Man fans are only just discovering an iconic Spider-Man villain hiding in plain sight, in Insomniac’s first take on the wallcrawler.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is releasing later this year and promises to be a gigantic new adventure for Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Aside from the in-game map expanding to new locations, as well as new powers and abilities like Peter’s slick new symbiote suit, it seems the villain roster will also be expanding. Aside from previously confirmed antagonists like Kraven The Hunter, The Lizard and of course, Venom, many fans are speculating which other villains from Spidey’s rogues gallery could be making an appearance. Despite there being plenty to choose from, fans are focusing their attention on the bloodthirsty vampire Morbius, who they believe has already appeared in Insomniac’s Marvel universe, and was right under our noses the entire time.
Take a look at Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in action below.
During Peter Parker’s search for the Devil’s Breath bio-weapon in the first game, he finds the scientist in charge of creating it, Dr Morgan Michaels. As pointed out by Twitter user @SpikeDaHedgehog, Dr Morgan Michaels could be an alias for Dr Michael Morbius.
If you’re unfamiliar with Morbius, he’s essentially a Spider-Man villain/anti-hero who turned himself into a vampire in an experiment gone wrong. The results gave him superhuman strength, speed, durability, heightened senses and partial flight provided there is a strong enough wind current. Whilst he’s appeared in several forms of Spider-Man media over the years, it was the recent live-action film Morbius, starring Jared Leto, that saw him ascend to internet notoriety, largely due to the avalanche of memes about the film.

Whether Insomniac Games has plans to resurrect the character in the upcoming Spider-Man 2 remains a mystery. The developer has played it safe with villains up to now with fan-favourites like Dr Octopus, Scorpion and Rhino, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see some more obscure villains make brief appearances in the next game. Morbius would also tie in with Kraven’s appearance in New York, as it seems he’s on a mission to hunt down some of the more notable prey found in the city, and what would be a better catch than an immortal vampire?
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released later this year in October, exclusively for the PlayStation 5, a decision that promises to take full advantage of the power of the console with “no compromises”.
