I’ll admit, I’m surprised that HBO’s The Last of Us hasn’t already been renewed for a second season given the show’s colossal success. It feels like a given that it’ll happen eventually but Ellie actress Bella Ramsey has warned fans that a second season actually relies on one key factor.
The Last of Us is HBO’s second-largest debut since 2010. In fact, over 18 million people have now seen the first episode in the US while episode two saw the biggest second-week viewer increase in HBO history. You may be shocked to find out that HBO almost decided to cut Infected out of the show completely, which is a bizarre idea. I’m glad they didn’t go with that plan. Fans already have a great prequel spin-off idea, but let’s just focus on securing a second season for now.
Take a look at the trailer below to see what’s in store in the coming weeks.
Ellie actress Bella Ramsey has told fans that if they want to see a second season, they need to keep watching and supporting the show. In an interview with BBC News, Ramsey said, “If people keep watching, I think [a second series] is pretty likely. It's down to the guys at HBO. There's nothing confirmed yet so we'll have to wait and see.” House of the Dragon was renewed by HBO after just two episodes. The Last of Us is certainly impressing with its figures so it can’t be too far behind.

Fans are already keen to find out who will play Abby in a potential second season. I won’t spoil the plot of The Last of Us Part II for the benefit of those of you who are new fans of the franchise but I will say that Abby plays a key role in the game. Neil Druckmann recently followed actress Shannon Berry on Instagram, plus she follows Druckmann, Ramsey, Pedro Pascal and the official The Last of Us account. It helps that Berry looks like Abby. Could this be more than a coincidence?
The Last of Us’ co-showrunner Craig Mazin recently confirmed that season two will indeed adapt the plot of Part II so we’re not going to have a Game of Thrones ‘make it up’ kind of a situation on our hands.
