The Last of Us’ popularity never falters but it is currently at an all-time high. The viewing figures for HBO’s TV adaptation just keep on growing and with that growth has come a renewed interest in the games.
In case you missed it, The Last of Us’ game sales have jumped by a whopping 238% with The Last of Us Part II recently topping Amazon’s PlayStation 4 sales charts. It’s no secret that Part II was somewhat controversial when it came out but fans are replaying it with a fresh mindset, with some even declaring that they now think that Abby is the best part of the game. With this renewed favour towards Part II comes a higher demand for a Part III and it looks like that game could be in development.
If you’re a PC gamer, The Last of Us Part I launches on that platform on 28 March.
As reported by The Leak, a source has claimed that The Last of Us Part III is indeed in production and Sony are eyeing a PS5 release yet with “PS6 in mind.” Part III is thought to be “in progress” at Naughty Dog and could release late in the PS5’s life cycle - perhaps closer to 2025 - with an improved version then later launched alongside the release of a PS6.

Until anything is officially confirmed, do take this all with a pinch of salt. The Last of Us Part III feels like a no brainer though for both Sony and Naughty Dog. Neil Druckmann recently said that the studio would only make Part III if they had a strong enough story but in 2021, Druckmann confirmed that he and Part II co-writer Halley Gross already had a Part III outline - so he could be trying to throw us off the scent.
Given Part II and the HBO’s show’s colossal success, Part III feels more likely than ever. It is actually the 10th anniversary of The Last of Us this year and we have been promised surprises throughout the year. Could a Part III reveal be included in that line-up? Stay tuned.
