A State of Play broadcast has officially been announced for later this week, and you know what that means. Rumours galore - be that for games we probably would expect to see (can we get that proper release date confirmation for Stray, please?) or for pipe dream titles that we’d love to see happen, but chances are, we never will.

Now, as reported by Screen Rant, a new Killzone is one of the games which is being speculated to make an appearance, and whether you consider that to be a pipe dream announcement or not is very much up for debate. Fans of the series were left pretty worried when the official website was retired (it now redirects to the regular PlayStation site), and more recently, when a leak suggested that Guerrilla Games were completely done with the series, things really didn’t look good.

Take a look at Guerrilla Games' upcoming VR Horizon game, Call of the Mountain, right here.

These new rumours suggest that the title will be developed specifically for the PlayStation VR2. In case you missed it, the VR2 was announced back in January, and beyond giving us perhaps the least creative name for a new PlayStation VR model that you could ever imagine, it promises a “true next-gen experience” and greater sense of immersion for players, boasting 4K visuals, an OLED display, eye-tracking and more.

Back when the VR2 was announced, so was a brand new game in the Horizon series, Horizon Call of the Mountain, which will be exclusive to the upcoming new VR model. As of right now, this is also the only exclusive game we know of, so adding another big title to the lineup would certainly make sense - PlayStation have also officially confirmed that we’ll be getting “a sneak peek at several games in development” for the VR2 during the State of Play. Whether or not one of these could be a new Killzone game is another matter, though.

We don’t have long to wait to see if the rumours are true, anyway, because the State of Play will air this Thursday, 2 June, at 11pm UK time.
