According to a recent rumour, one of the most popular PlayStation classics is coming back with a modern remaster.

The original Driver was released in 1999 on PS1 and it starred John Tanner. Playing as an undercover police officer, players had four large maps to explore, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City.

Check out the Driver gameplay below!

Driver 2 would arrive a year later and this time, Tanner could leave his car to explore the large maps. It’s perhaps somewhat fair to say that the two original Driver games may been a point of inspiration for Rockstar Games’ GTA III, the first game in the Grand Theft Auto series to go fully 3D.

It might be easy to look back at both games with tinted glasses because they were released decades ago and technology has changed a lot. Still, if the rumours are true and both games could receive modern remasters, it might be fun taking a trip down memory lane.

That being said, I hope to God that the infamous Driver tutorial takes it easy on us because that opening section which you had to pass before you played the main game has given many of us PTSD that we’re still reliving today.

It is YouTuber tvPH who claims that several remasters are on the way for Nintendo Switch which includes the aforementioned two Driver games. It’s also mentioned that 2011’s Driver San Francisco could also receive a remaster down the line.

If these rumours are true (which should be taken with a major pinch of salt until proven otherwise), I would imagine that the Driver remasters would also arrive on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

We’ll keep you posted if we hear more information. Hopefully, we'll learn more in the coming months.
