The release of John Wick: Chapter 4 is almost upon us, and despite the overwhelming hype from fans, it’s sounding like the future of the franchise is a lot less certain than ever before.
By all accounts, the upcoming fourth film seems like it’s going to be spectacular. The first impressions posted by critics earlier this month were overwhelmingly positive, and it sounds even better now that full reviews have been released. At the time of writing, it has a critic score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes (that number keeps fluctuating slightly as more reviews are posted).
Take a look at the trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4 below.
A fifth John Wick film was already confirmed back in 2020 by Lionsgate (thanks, Deadline), but now, it doesn’t seem like it’s actually guaranteed to happen. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Chad Stahelski has revealed that he and Keanu Reeves want to give the series “a rest”.

“In our minds, Keanu and I are done for the moment. We’re going to give John Wick a rest,” he said. “I’m sure the studio has a plan. If everyone loves it and it goes kooky, then we’ll take a quiet minute.
“Wicks always, for some weird reason, always get the latest release date in Japan. It’s always like, three months later,” he continued. “If it’s the same this time, we’ll do a Japanese tour and release the movie in September. Keanu and I will take the long trip to Tokyo, we’ll sit in the Imperial Hotel Scotch Bar and go, ‘What do you think?’ We’ll have a couple 20-year-old whiskies and write some ideas on napkins. If those ideas stick, maybe we’ll make a movie.”
Let’s hope that the pair manage to come up with a good enough idea to justify the fifth film happening, then. But for now, John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to release on 24 March - don’t miss it.
