I’m imagining that I don’t need to remind you that Fallout 5 remains years away.
Bethesda’s sights are firmly set on the upcoming The Elder Scrolls VI, and if the studio is juggling two projects, I wouldn’t be surprised if the second was another Starfield expansion.
I’m still convinced that one will arrive alongside a PlayStation 5 port, but I digress.

My point is that you’re going to be waiting a good few years until full development efforts shift to Fallout 5, but that doesn’t mean that you’ll be left without a Fallout fix.
The Elder Scrolls fans were treated to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered last week which should make the long, arduous wait for TES VI that much easier.
We could see a similar situation rollout for the Fallout franchise as an upcoming Fallout 3 remaster is perhaps one of the industry’s worst-kept secrets.
The remaster was referenced in a document issued by Microsoft several years ago, but it was leaker NateTheHate2 who recently piped up adding that while it’s still in development, “it’ll be a while before we see it”.

Even still, the game’s original designer Bruce Nesmith has some ideas about what players could see included.
You can view the trailer for the recently dropped Oblivion Remastered below.
In an interview with VideoGamer, Nesmith explained that he’d love to see Fallout 3’s gameplay brought more in line with Fallout 4’s.

“What did you see in Fallout 4? That will tell you what they felt was necessary to change from Fallout 3,” Nesmith said.
“I know in Fallout 4, there was a lot of work done on the gun combat because Fallout 3 is the first time they ever tried to do a shooter-style game. And, well, I think the work that was done was amazing.”
“[Fallout 3 combat] didn’t hold up to shooters at the time. Also, it’s an RPG shooter, it’s not a run-and-gun shooter. But a lot of work was done on that for Fallout 4. So I anticipate seeing a lot of that work go into it, assuming they’re doing the same thing,” he continued.
I should point out that Nesmith did previously depart Bethesda so he won’t have concrete knowledge of what the remaster will entail, but the ‘wants’ of an OG developer are well worth listening to as an indication of what we may see.

It’s enough to leave fans hyped.
“The Oblivion remaster has made me significantly more excited for a Fallout 3 remaster. I love Fallout 3 so that would be freaking awesome,” wrote Reddit user killakev564.
“Man, imagine Fallout 3 remaster like Oblivion that also keeps the same atmosphere,” added Washinout91.
“Day one purchase. Hopefully Virtuous is heading this again,” commented jlfk99nitro.
