Jack Black is a gem of a guy. A true internet favourite, the star is currently in the midst of doing the press rounds for the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie which I personally cannot wait to see.
If you didn’t know, Black will bring Bowser to life in the animated flick and fans are already won over by the casting despite the fact that the film doesn’t release until 7 April. As soon as the first trailer dropped, fans instantly began fawning over, what appears to be, Black’s already iconic performance. Black is also set to star in the upcoming Borderlands movie, where he’ll portray the sociopathic yellow robot Claptrap. Just a few months ago, the actor went viral for serenading a young fan with one of his favourite School of Rock songs. Did you know though that Jack Black isn’t actually the actor’s name?
Take a look at the trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie below.
As reported by our friends at UNILAD, fans are just now discovering that Jack Black was actually born as Thomas Jacob Black in Santa Monica, California, in the summer of 1969. As a child, Black developed the nickname Jack as an adaptation of his middle name Jacob and it ended up sticking. Needless to say, Jack Black has a nice ring to it so it’s no surprise that that’s what the actor went with when he decided to enter the showbiz industry.

Speaking of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the film’s runtime has been confirmed and it sounds as if it’s going to be a short but sweet adventure. The movie is due to run for around 92 minutes which, admittedly, is fairly normal when it comes to animation. Recent hit Puss in Boots: The Last Wish had a runtime of 103 minutes, with last year’s Lightyear sitting at the 105 minute mark - both of which aren’t dissimilar to Mario’s length.
The film is said to include “mild peril and comic violence”. Personally, I need to know if that supposed ‘plumbing song’ is real after insiders claimed to have seen the film last year.
