In a year that blessed us with so many amazing video games from Baldur’s Gate 3 to Alan Wake 2 and more, Hogwarts Legacy somehow got lost in the 2023 shuffle.
Set in a non-canon Wizarding World separate from the likes of the Harry Potter novels and movies, Hogwarts Legacy tells the story of a mysterious student enrolled in the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the fifth academic year to the surprise of many.

Aside from a captivating story from start to finish, Hogwarts Legacy allows players to live the best Wizarding World fantasy life like never before. Whether it’s exploring the enchanting halls of Hogwarts castle, venturing into its surrounding environments such as Hogsmeade Village and the Forbidden Forest, or even interacting with many of its charming NPCs, there’s plenty of fun to be had in Hogwarts Legacy.

The fun that players were having in Hogwarts Legacy reflected the fact that the video game developed by Avalanche Software made more money than some Harry Potter movies and outsold the lifetime sales of Elden Ring in just five weeks. Yet, despite the impressive sales numbers, Hogwarts Legacy failed to earn a single nomination at The Game Awards 2023, to the dismay of disgruntled fans.
Furthermore, a tweet by the official Twitter account of Hogwarts Legacy, confirms that the Warner Bros Games title is the best-selling game of 2023 worldwide. Meaning that Hogwarts Legacy outsold the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and more.
This news will no doubt further baffle those who were annoyed that Hogwarts Legacy never won major gongs at some of the most prestigious video game award ceremonies. However, at the very least, this update will surely do no harm to the chances of us getting Hogwarts Legacy 2 one day.
