Hogwarts Legacy player stumbles across iconic Harry Potter character

One Hogwarts Legacy player has stumbled across an iconic Harry Potter character in-game.

Hogwarts Legacy is a game full of many wonders inside and outside of the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Whether it’s a mysterious Basilisk and the Chamber of Secrets, a nod to where Dumbledore’s fate was sealed or a heartwarming tribute to Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane who passed away in October 2022.

There are plenty of other subtle easter eggs to discover - if you have the eyes of an eagle, that is. Though if you actually have the eyes of an eagle, I’d seriously suggest you consider seeing an optician as soon as possible. But anyway, let’s get back on track. As reported by ComicBook, a Reddit user by the name of Xunlu_Tingzhi has discovered a portrait in the Hogwarts library that features an elf with an uncanny resemblance to that of Sirius Black’s house elf Kreacher. “I think I've found a new easter egg. Check out this portrait, this is clearly Kreacher the house-elf,” posted the Redditor.

“Oh, that’s absolutely him! Even looks like movie Kreacher right down to the grumpy demeanour he gave off,” agreed bigpapajayjay. “I think if I remember lore correctly from the books, he mumbles about serving the Black family most of his life. I also think maybe his mother served the Black family as well but idk how canon that is.”

We’re not 100% certain that it is Kreacher in the image, but the portrait does resemble the elf, even if Hogwarts Legacy takes place around 100 years prior to the events of Harry Potter. That being said, Kreacher is said to be hundreds of years old, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility. At the very least, this house elf portrait might be inspired by Black’s companion. However, Hogwarts Legacy is non-canon, so we’d be leaning more towards the side of the latter. Still, we’ll take that as a nice easter egg nonetheless.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It will then release on 5 May for PS4 and Xbox One, followed by Nintendo Switch on 25 July.
