Developed by 343 Industries, Halo: Infinite had all the makings of a great game. Released to positive reviews, in our own review Dean remarked that the game was “a return to form for the series” with “extremely enjoyable” core gameplay. The problem with Halo: Infinite is the lack of post-launch updates.
Disappointed by an ongoing lack of co-op campaign, Halo: Infinite’s player base recently fell to an all time low on the Steam Database. With a second season on the way on 3 May, it all feels too little, too late. If there’s any hope of saving Halo: Infinite, it’s with the release of a co-op campaign. The good news is that we finally have a co-op release window. The bad news? Well, there’s plenty of that.

Halo: Infinite’s co-op mode is slated for an August release … at the earliest. Oh but there’s another catch. This applies to online co-op play only - split screen is still some time away. The news follows the developers’ statement that “It’s going to take more time to land a high-quality, full-featured four-player network co-op experience in the massive, wide-open world of Halo: Infinite.”

As there’s still no release window set for split-screen co-op, the saga goes on. Current roadmaps show season three will launch in November with split-screen co-op to follow this at a later confirmed date.
In a blog post, the devs wrote, “We know we need to deliver more content and more features more quickly [...] As we continue to improve and ramp up, please understand that all of us at 343 are fully committed to making Halo: Infinite the best Halo experience ever.” Best Halo experience ever? I’m not so sure about that. It seems an improved Halo: Infinite experience could be down the road though, if we’re patient enough to wait for it.
