Halo Infinite was supposed to get a sequel apparently, though it seems like the rebrand has killed any chances of that happening.
While it wasn’t perfect Halo Infinite was a godsend compared to Halo 5: Guardians, and to a lesser extent Halo 4, with a more familiar art style, engaging gameplay and greater story.
Take a look at Halo Infinite below
It left a lot on the table though, as the end of the singleplayer campaign was essentially a cliffhanger considering how much of The Banished was left on the Halo ring, Atriox was still lingering somewhere, and we still had no idea where the UNSC and the rest of Chief’s allies ended up.

All of this would have been great to explore in a sequel, and it’s believed one was originally supposed to enter development before it all fell through.
This report comes from Rebs Gaming, who claims a sequel was in development with the Slipspace Engine, which was used for Halo: Infinite, before a leadership change pivoted everything to Unreal Engine 5 instead.
Rebs Gaming said “343’s creative team spent a few months learning Unreal Engine 5 to prepare for the next project … This lasted until January 2023 when Microsoft laid off a significant amount of 343 employees, including the entire creative team.”
As we know 343 Industries, now known as Halo Studios, confirmed future Halo games will be made with Unreal Engine 5.

While fans are excited by the tease of a “New Dawn” for Halo, it’s clear many would have liked to see Halo Infinite’s story explore further.
“We should have gotten dlc expansions. The campaign was good, but it needed more” said one fan, and “the problem with Halo is that it's trying things their audience really doesn't have interest in” added another.
Hopefully the rebrand is exactly what the series needs to be restored to its former glory, as it’s in dire need of some solid footing.
