Rockstar Games’ remaster of Grand Theft Auto Trilogy - Definitive Edition just got a pretty sizeable update on current-generation hardware, and the game is finally starting to look like the version we should have received when it first launched back in 2021.
The update has brought the game to be more in line with the mobile port of the release, which actually looked visually superior to the console and PC release of the game.
User Pulverdings over on the r/Games subreddit showed off some of the visual changes and this stuff is (literally) night and day.

I honestly don’t know if it’s more impressive that the mobile port of the game looked this good in the first place, or if it’s more embarrassing that the current-gen version of the game previously looked so terrible.
Check out some of our favourite wins and fails.
Fans are currently flip-flopping between being impressed by the upgrades and wondering why exactly the original game was allowed to ship in the state it previously did.

“Damn,” commented BeholdingBestWaifu, “You know things were bad when a mobile port had better features. I still can't believed they shipped the first version of the Definitive Edition with that ugly white sky.”
According to IGN’s Wesley Yin-Poole, it’s also been reported that any mention of Grove Street Games - the developer that originally worked on the title - has been removed from the game entirely.
If that is true, I can’t think of an example of something like that happening since… well, ever? I know this is Rockstar’s IP we’re talking about here, but is that allowed?
Either way, I’m glad the game that people paid a bunch of money for three years ago finally looks on par with the original games it was remastering.

I’m curious to see if we hear anything from Grove Street Games regarding the changes in the next few days, just to find out if this kind of thing is even allowed from a legal standpoint.
