You’d be hard-pressed to find any gamer who isn't excited to learn more about Rockstar Games’ next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.
Ever since Rockstar Games revealed the first official trailer for GTA VI, the hype train continues to roll and it will only pick up further in the months ahead. That being said, considering that a GTA VI release hasn't been announced for PC as of yet, there is still a section of its fanbase that may be a little concerned, but we have no doubts about GTA VI being released on PC at some point.

Other than PC, some Xbox Series S gamers are also concerned that Grand Theft Auto VI might not be able to run the game at an acceptable level, though we’re sure that Rockstar Games will make it work. After all, by all rights, GTA V pushed the PS3 and the Xbox 360 to the absolute limits, especially when you throw GTA Online into the mix. Though GTA Online is now dead on that generation, but you get my drift.

However, if there’s one system that will have no concerns about whether it will be able to run GTA VI, it’s the Nintendo Switch. I love this hybrid system, but we all know that it will kill the console even if it tries to boot up the GTA V loading screen, let alone attempt to run GTA VI. Yet, what about the unannounced Nintendo Switch 2 or whatever it may be called?
At the time of writing, the Nintendo Switch 2 hasn't been announced, but some reports have claimed that the new console might arrive in 2024. Other rumours claim that as the assumed name suggests, the Nintendo Switch 2 will take inspiration from its predecessor. In a recent episode of Digital Foundry’s Q&A related to GTA VI, the tech experts discussed whether the Nintendo Switch 2 might be able to run the next game in the Grand Theft Auto series.
Richard Leadbetter explained that running GTA VI on the Nintendo Switch 2 would be “very tricky to pull off”. He continued “I’d love to say it would happen. I don’t think it will, realistically. It’s a mobile chipset. We’ve seen a lot of amazing things on the Switch 1. Switch 2 is going to be a lot better, a proper generational leap, and forward-looking in many ways. But the stuff they [Rockstar Games] seem to be rolling out for GTA VI is possibly beyond that.”
Digital Foundry colleague Oliver Mackenzie also explained that if GTA VI was to run on the Nintendo Switch 2, especially with the heavy demands on CPU, he said “The Switch 2 is not going to be powerful enough to run all that ray tracing. I just cannot see it.”

At the end of the day, we don't know what the Nintendo Switch 2 will be capable of until it's announced. That being said, the folks at Digital Foundry are considered tech experts for a reason, so their opinion carries some weight.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
