It’ll come as a surprise to no one that scammers are already trying to take advantage of those who want to get their hands on Grand Theft Auto VI. The latest con to appear online is offering access to a ‘GTA VI Alpha Version’ for $225. A blatant lie.
GTA VI is officially on the way in 2025. As it stands, there are no pre-orders available. We’re yet to get a definitive release date, nor do we know what kind of editions will release when pre-orders do eventually go live. It’ll likely be several months before Rockstar further lifts the lid on the project but eagle-eyed fans think they’ve caught a glimpse of the game’s map in the official trailer. With information thin on the ground, scammers have clearly spotted a window of opportunity. Already, fake PC downloads have been spotted online. Now, a fake pre-order has appeared.
Take a look at the GTA VI trailer below.
It goes without saying, do not download, pay for, or open anything claiming to be GTA VI or grant you access to GTA VI. Nothing of this nature is currently available and when it is, information will be made available through Rockstar’s official channels.
Advert
That’s not going to stop scammers from praying on the vulnerable though. As reported by AutoEvolution, a $225 ‘GTA VI Alpha Version’ is being advertised online. The video ads have been spotted running on YouTube, telling viewers that they can “download and test the gameplay”. The video features a Rockstar logo next to the wording ‘Play now’. Hopefully, Rockstar is able to take this ad down before anyone falls for it.
We can only expect that scams of this kind will continue to pop up online. GTA VI is undeniably the most hyped and anticipated game of all-time. Scrap that, one of the most hyped pieces of entertainment across any medium. That’s going to be taken advantage of.
