As the days draw near to when we will finally get to see the first official trailer for GTA VI, fans have been discussing what they’d love to see in the next entry of the popular series from Rockstar Games.
For months on end, we’ve had to make do with a seamlessly endless stream of rumours. Hopefully, those rumours will be put to rest when the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer is released early next month. That being said, rumours aside, it’s nice to see discussions on what fans would like to see implemented in the game such as the fantastic Nemesis system that was so brilliantly used in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War.
Check out the Middle-earth: Shadow of War trailer!
Developed by Monolith Productions, the Middle-earth: Shadow series told an alternate story in the fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. The first game in this series, Shadow of Mordor was set in between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and in it, you played a Gondorian Ranger named Talion, who was dealt a cruel fate with a tragic family loss but rose to power to become a fearless leader of Mordor.

While this series perhaps lacked meaningful storytelling, its Nemesis System was a standout and clever gameplay mechanic that enhanced NPC AI to the extent that they would remember you in battle for better or worse. What’s more, whenever you defeated an enemy, another would rise through the ranks to take its place. However, if an enemy defeats you in battle, it too would gain promotion and would have no problem gloating about its accolade. The Nemesis system made the Middle-earth: Shadow series feel organic and unique to the individual player. Sadly, we’ve not seen the Nemesis system since the release of Middle-earth: Shadow of War in 2017.
Despite Warner Bros. Games patenting the impressive Nemesis system, it hasn't stopped fans from wishing for it to appear in Rockstar Games’ upcoming highly anticipated game.
“It would be really cool to see a Nemesis system [in GTA VI],” said Redditor aut0matix kicking off the discussion on the thread. “It would be really cool to have gang leaders rise through the ranks as you kill their bosses and have a vendetta against you. And depending on how much you've f****d up their gang is how hard they come after you.”
“That would be cool. I’d love to see a return of gang turfs and wars, with hit contract missions targeted at their ranking members,” replied Immolated_Marmoset. Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, due to the WB Games patent, it’s unlikely that any game outside of the publisher will get to use this mechanic, even though the publisher hasn't used it since 2017.

“Hopefully WB loses the patent or is liberal with licensing it out. Could benefit so many games. This sounds great for GTA,” said god_pharaoh. We can only hope because it really is a damn shame that the Nemesis system is seemingly going to waste.
At the time of writing, we do not have a release date for Grand Theft Auto VI, but it is expected to be released sometime during 2024 or 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
