Black Myth Wukong, Helldivers 2 and FF7 Rebirth win big at Golden Joysticks

Big winners at tonight's awards

The winners of The Golden Joysticks Awards 2024 have been revealed, with the biggest winners being Black Myth Wukong, Helldivers 2, and Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth.

It’s been quite a busy year for games, with the likes of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree and Black Myth Wukong being some of the most talked-about games of the last 12 months.

Multiplayer titles such as Helldivers 2 and Tekken 8 have also proved to be a hit with players, maintaining strong numbers and regular content drops to keep everyone happy.

So when it comes to the awards season as we approach the end of the year, it’s no surprise to see these titles up for some of the industry’s most prestigious accolades.

Here's a trailer for Black Myth Wukong if you need to know what it's all about.

Tonight saw the return of the annual Golden Joystick Awards, in which player-voted awards are handed out to some of the biggest games and studios of the year.

The biggest prize, that being the Ultimate Game of the Year, went to Black Myth Wukong from Chinese developer Game Science. In addition to this, the studio also took home the award for Best Visual Design.

Other big winners in the show are Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth and Helldivers 2, which both took home four separate awards.

Meanwhile, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree won the award for Best Game Expansion, while GTA 6 won, rather unsurprisingly, the Most Wanted Game award.

Here are the list of winners in each category:

  • Best Audio Design - Astro Bot
  • Best Soundtrack - Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth
  • Best Storytelling - Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth

  • Ultimate Game of the Year - Black Myth Wukong

All-in-all, it’s a bit of a mixed bag of results this year. There hasn’t quite been a Baldur’s Gate 3 of 2024, which ended up hoovering seven awards in total at last year’s Golden Joysticks. So, this year’s winners are a bit more spread out.
