PlayStation icon Aloy was very recently confirmed to be LGBTQ+, which has got some gamers thinking about what other characters might be, too.
For the sake of spoilers, I won’t go into exact detail of how we know Aloy is LGBTQ+, but it really is everywhere on the internet right now - I’d be amazed if you haven’t already seen it. Regardless, it’s a huge win for fans.
Take a look at the trailer for Horizon Forbidden West’s PS5-exclusive DLC, Burning Shores, right here.
Over on Twitter, PlayStation users have been celebrating the console’s LGBTQ+ characters: “The fact that PlayStation's best three franchises have LGBTQ leads,” @kieronpx tweeted, along with screenshots of Ellie and Dina from The Last of Us Part II, Aloy from Forbidden West, and the God of War himself, Kratos.

While Kratos hasn’t been confirmed as LGBTQ+, many fans strongly believe that he could be: “From the story he tells Atreus about his namesake he was clearly in love with an another man once,” wrote @gerryndhisbeard. “[For real though], his story about Atreus' namesake sure had a lot of... admiration in it,” @cleofrom5to9 tweeted. “His relationship with Atreus’s namesake was most definitely not heterosexual,” agreed @plandefeld410.
In the game, Kratos describes the fallen warrior Atreus of Sparta as “unlike the rest of us”, noting that “he wore a smile even in the worst of times” and was “happy”. He also says that “his memory was a comfort in dark times”. While it’s not directly stated that Kratos’ connection with him was romantic, it clearly resonated with some fans in this way, and it’s not hard to see why. He might have settled down with a wife and had children with her, but if he was bisexual, for example, he wouldn’t suddenly become heterosexual due to his partner being a woman.
At the time of writing though, the devs haven’t confirmed whether or not Kratos really is a LGBTQ+ character, but fans have their theories. We’ll have to watch this space.
