Normally, the next PlayStation Plus offerings are only unveiled at the end of the present month, but we've actually gotten a heads-up at one of the confirmed games on its way in January.
December's games, which include Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Biomutant and Divine Knockout for Essential subscribers, have been met with an arguably tepid reception. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a hell of a get, let's not mix things up, however the Extra and Premium players are not overly pleased with their lot when they're paying a little more. The classics for this month are PSP's Pinball Heroes and Ridge Racer 2, PS1's Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, and PS3's Heavenly Sword. No one needs a prescription to see that this pales compared to the enormous collection of backwards-compatible games on Xbox Game Pass.
Nevertheless, those with a subscription might have seen that the first free PS Plus game of the new year has already been revealed. WWE 2K22 is technically in the holly-jolly bundle for PS Plus this month, however, the post on the PlayStation Blog states that the game won't be available til 3 January, 2023. It's sort of like when someone's present doesn't arrive in time for Christmas so you get a mini Christmas after Christmas. "Christmas" doesn't look like a real word any more.

WWE 2K22 is fortunately a huge step up from the previous entry in the series, which was much maligned for its horrendous state upon launch, but the consensus was that Visual Concepts played it slightly too safe. Still, it's a free game, isn't it?
If you're in the market for some more PS Plus action, Extra and Premium subscribers can get their hands on 22 new games - including three Far Cry titles - right now. There are certainly worse ways to spend Christmas.
