If you were to ask someone what the best console of all time is, the answer you get will probably massively depend on their own bias. If you asked me, I’d probably say the Wii U, albeit mostly because it’s a funny answer to give (that said, I do have a very big soft spot for it, and I’m still wracked with guilt from unplugging it to make room for my PS5).
While you're here, be sure to check out this super satisfying deep-clean of a PS4 below.
Really, there’s no definitive answer, but sales figures of consoles can certainly indicate how popular they are, and as reported by Metro, we’ve at last got the final figures in for the PS4. Sony have apparently confirmed that they’ll no longer be reporting sales for the 2013 console, which might indicate that manufacturing of it has either ceased or is set to shortly (although it was previously claimed that it would continue through 2022, amid the PS5 stock issues).

So, how do the numbers fare? Unsurprisingly, really, really well - at a whopping 117.2 million units sold, the PS4 is currently the fourth best-selling console of all time, behind the Game Boy and Game Boy Color (with a combined total of 118.7 million), the Nintendo DS (154 million) and its older sibling, the PS2 (155 million).
You really can’t fault that. The PS4 might struggle to maintain its fourth-place spot forever, though, as the Nintendo Switch sales figures are still flying - the most recent numbers indicated that 111.08 million units have been sold so far.
