Square Enix has teased a possible Final Fantasy 9 remake, and fans are obviously trying to be very normal about this.
The original PS1 Final Fantasy trilogy is often regarded as some of the finest games ever. Obviously, FF7 is the fan favourite, but FF8 and FF9 are also highly beloved.
With Square Enix currently midway through turning Final Fantasy 7 into its own trilogy of remakes, the question remains whether the developer will do the same for the other games of that era.

We hope the third entry in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy is just as good as the first two.
A possible remake of Final Fantasy 9 has been rumoured over the years since at least 2021 when the GeForce Now database leaked, revealing the development of many unannounced games, ports, and remakes.
Alongside titles like Gears 6 and the Resident Evil 4 remake (both unannounced at the time), a Final Fantasy 9 remake was also leaked as part of the list. If it does exist, it was assumed this would be a project Square Enix is working on alongside the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy.

Now, the developer has made a new tease hinting at a possible Final Fantasy 9 remake. Over on X (formerly Twitter), it made the following post:

The post shows a screenshot from Final Fantasy 9 of a black screen with the text "My memories will be part of the sky…".
The post caption from Square Enix also reads "If you know, you know" accompanied by a crying face emoji.
We won't spoil it too much, but fans will easily recognise the line as appearing during a pivotal moment during Final Fantasy 9. Which has led to more speculation that a remake is planned.
"Don’t toy with us like this please," wrote one fan underneath the post.

"No three game split while changing the story into a boring multiverse mess, and we will be happy," another wrote.
Of course, this isn't a direct confirmation that a remake is definitely happening. Final Fantasy 9 will be turning 25 in July, and Square Enix also recently launched new merchandise celebrating the game.
So, we'll still take this with a pinch of salt for now. But considering the rumours and leaks that have happened over the years, it seems that hype is building for a project of this scope.
