I hope that you’re sat down before receiving this news, Ubisoft reportedly has new Far Cry games in the works.
The first game in the Far Cry series was released in 2004 on PC, and while it may have taken the series a few years to become a global success, this first-person shooter franchise is one of Ubisoft’s most prominent properties.

However, despite being one of Ubisoft’s most popular franchises alongside the likes of Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and Just Dance (yes, really), some feel that Far Cry has lost much of its spark with its lack of evolution over the years.

It’s now been nearly three years since the launch of its most recent game, Far Cry 6 and if you were wondering when the next game might arrive, hopefully, we shouldn't be waiting too long for the release of Far Cry 7.
As spotted by Comicbook.com, Ubisoft is currently hiring for a 3D programming team lead to work on the “next-generation” of Far Cry games.
“As a 3D Programmer Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading a team of skilled 3D programmers in the development of the next generation of the Far Cry branded games,” the job description reads. “You will split your time between team management and project management.”
Not much else was provided regarding what the next game in the Far Cry series will be about, but the job listing suggests that Ubisoft plans on releasing more than one entry and that it could be a next-gen title.

In recent years, while Ubisoft has released cross-gen titles, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be a next-gen title only, so it’s safe to assume that the next Far Cry will be the same.
As for when the next Far Cry game will be released, that’s anyone’s guess at this point but it could be a couple of years away at least. We’ll keep you posted when we learn more.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on 15 November 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
