Last year, Bethesda announced that Fallout 4 was set to receive a free update on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
This shiny new-gen update would, much like Skyrim: Anniversary Edition, come bundled with improved graphics, better framerates, and a ton of integrated mods that include a slew of quality of life features. Perfect news for Fallout fans.
Unfortunately this announcement was made in October 2022. Here we are, currently in August 2023, with no clue as to when this new-gen update will launch.

Take a look at the stunning Fallout: London below!
The good news is Bethesda hasn't actually forgotten it promised a Fallout 4 upgrade. The bad news? The team is currently focused on a little game called Starfield, which means we'll have to wait a little longer to dive back into the apocalyptic RPG. Given the incredible levels of hype around Starfield, that's a trade I'm sure most of us are happy to make.
As spotted on Twitter (not X, meet me in the Octagon Elon you coward), Bethesda's Pete Hines was pretty blunt when responding to a fan who asked about the Fallout 4 upgrade.
"Dunno if you've heard but we're shipping a new game in three weeks," he said. "Bit of a priority. When we have an update, we will share it."

Oof. But, also, fair enough. I expect it's an incredibly busy time at Bethesda HQ right now, so fans asking where Fallout 4 is while they're hard at work prepping a completely new massive RPG must get a little annoying.
Starfield will be available from 1 September, so I'm sure nobody will be missing Fallout 4 for at least a good few months.
Hines also recently assuaged growing concerns that Starfield will be hit with a last-minute delay because it hasn't yet gone gold. Spoiler: it almost certainly won't be delayed again.
