Without a doubt, one of the greatest surprises of the Xbox Games Showcase last week was the grand reveal of Fable, three years after its initial announcement.
It’d be wrong to say that no one saw it coming, to be fair - a Xbox released a teaser for the showcase over a week before it actually happened, in which the person filming can be seen following a trail of glitter in their house (which is definitely still ingrained in their carpet) to a whimsical tune which sounded very similar to Fable 1’s Bowerstone music. Looking back on this, it seems very obvious that a trailer was going to be released, but you can’t blame everyone for being speculative given how many years we’ve been waiting for it.
Take a look at the brand new trailer for Fable below.
Anyway, although we still don’t have a release date for Fable, we do have a lot more details, and in case there was any doubt in your mind, yes, that was actual gameplay footage shown in the trailer. You’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise given how cinematic it looks, but as GamesRadar+ reports, Playground Games’ lead lighting artist, Lukas Koelz, has confirmed once and for all that the final game will look just as good as this.

“People not believing this is 'real' or that the game will look like this is one of the best compliments,” he tweeted.
Unfortunately, not everyone has been full of praise for the Fable trailer - some have actually been attacking it due to the “unattractive” female character who was shown off, because that’s clearly the part of the game that matters the most. Similarly, Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game, Outlaws, has unfortunately come under fire by some who are angry that the main protagonist is female.
