The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered players discover trick that'll let you level rapidly

Easy way to level up

For those jumping on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered this week, players have discovered an old levelling trick from the original game still works in the new version.

Oblivion was iconic and groundbreaking for many reasons. For an open-world RPG released in 2006, it was able to capture a large, authentic fantasy world years before Skyrim, on hardware that could only just support it.

As a result of the game's massive scope, Oblivion also became infamous for its many glitches and exploits, some of which were tied to the levelling system.

For example, you can exploit the goblin who appears in the first dungeon by going into sneak mode and running against a wall, levelling up your Sneak skill as long as you kept moving.

It also appears that Bethesda has not patched some of these exploits for the official Oblivion Remastered which launched this week, as players have found they can still perform them.

One Reddit user has already asked which glitches still work in the remaster, with one common answer saying the Peryite's Shrine XP glitch still works.

How to do the Peryite's Shrine XP glitch

The Peryite's Shrine glitch allows you to level up rapidly by levelling your combat skills.

Because of the way levelling works in Oblivion, you can have certain "Major" and "Minor" skills in your class, and levelling them enough times will also increase your overall level.

To do the glitch, head over to Peryite's Shrine. It's located on the south bank of the Silverfish River, east of the Niben Bay. You can find it near the bridge as you walk up from Leyawiin.

At Peryite's Shrine, you'll find several worshippers who have become "stuck" and frozen in time.

Attacking them will allow you to level up your combat skills, because they won't retaliate, nor will they die from taking enough damage. You also won't get in trouble with the law.

So you can effectively keep attacking these NPCs over and over again to level up certain skills. Using certain weapons will level up the associated skills. You can effectively do this indefinitely until you've maxed those skills out.

The only thing to keep in mind is do not start the Peryite quest by interacting with the shrine, as this will take you to Oblivion, and the NPCs will be freed once you finish the quest.

So, only start that quest if you're either not going to use the glitch or are done exploiting it.

Other commenters have noted that some glitches no longer work, such as the dupe glitch and paintbrush glitch. As time goes on, I'm sure more legacy bugs (and maybe even some new ones) will become known.
