Fans of EA’s popular boxing franchise Fight Night are in agreement that the series is long overdue a revival. It’s a shame because, in fact, it was so close to actually happening.
A while back, EA looked set to green-light a Fight Night reboot. Kicking off in 2004, the franchise spawned five successful entries - the most recent being 2011’s Fight Night Champion. We then essentially had a decade of radio silence before EA teased that a new entry had entered development in late 2021. Just over six months later, the proposed project was back on the scrap heap. It’s believed that EA instead chose to develop the growing EA Sports UFC franchise but it remains to be seen if that’s true. In the meantime though, fans of Fight Night are letting EA know their feelings towards the series.
Take a look at the Fight Night series in action below.
Over on change.org, a petition was set up with fans demanding a Fight Night Champion 2. At the time of writing, it’s received over 11,800 signatures with 15,000 being the next goal. It was set up by an anonymous fan who wrote, “There is no doubt about it. Boxing IS on the rise again. The excitement and entertainment the sport brings to the masses is unquestionably breathtaking. [...] I, along with many other boxing fans around the world, believe there should be another boxing game such as the highly rated Fight Night series. It would mean a great deal to the boxing community as well as many casual fans to be given an opportunity to relive the great moments from fighters, old and new, all over again.”

Plenty of fans on Reddit held the same feelings, sharing a particular affinity for Fight Night Round 2. Zatgot wrote, “I have a soft spot for Fight Night Round 2. This series needs to come back,” while zalinuxguy added, “I still have a PS2 purely for that game. Had so much fun playing 1v1 against a friend.”
BLSR97 said, “Still waiting for the new one. This game was ahead of its time.” See, EA? Give the people what they want.
