In a statement that made guides writers and reviewers around the world fight back the urge to vomit over the weekend, Techland confirmed that the upcoming Dying Light 2 will boast "at least" 500 hours of gameplay.
We've known for a while now that the studio has lofty ambitions for the upcoming open-world zombie RPG. It previously teased that you'd need to play through the game multiple times to see everything it has to offer. And when you factor in all the side quests, collectibles, and other things that open-world games are apparently required by law to include these days? Well, you're looking at a hefty package.
Take a look at Dying Light 2 in action below!
"To fully complete Dying Light 2: Stay Human, you'll need at least 500 hours—almost as long as it would take to walk from Warsaw to Madrid!," read/threatened a post shared to Twitter.
Predictably, this proclamation caused something of a stir. While the prospect of a 500-hour+ game will excite many, there are those who would rather not have to put in quite so much time to see everything it has to offer. There are other games to play, after all. Also jobs and friends and family, I guess. But mostly other games.
Fortunately, Techland was swift to clarify. While Dying Light 2 boasts 500 hours of gameplay, you don't need to spend anything close to that in the game to get the most out of it.
"500 hours is related to maxing out the game - finishing all the quests, endings, and exploring every part of the world," the developer said in a follow-up tweet. "But a regular player should finish the story and side quests, and do quite a lot of exploring in less than 100 hours, so don't worry! "
Dying Light 2 hits PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series consoles, Xbox One, and PC on February 4.
