According to an industry insider, Destiny 3 is on the horizon and may follow the upcoming expansion, The Final Shape.
The insider hinted at the future beyond Destiny 2 leaving some pretty credible information that was confirmed recently by Bungie themselves.
Destiny 2's story will come to an end with The Final Shape DLC this year
In an old comment on the Destiny subreddit from a month ago it was leaked that Destiny 2 would feature multiclass Guardians for the first time, able to use abilities from all classes.

While many were skeptical, it turns out that leaker was correct, as Bungie announced multiclass abilities yesterday in their video about The Final Shape, the game's next DLC that will close the ten-year story.
Interestingly, the insider also mentioned, in the same post, that Bungie is working on Destiny 3 currently codenamed ‘Payback.’
This would allow the developer to start from scratch and focus on multiclasses given that there is no canon reason as to why Guardians couldn’t already do this.
Given the insider was right about the first point, they could very well be correct on the sequel details, and Redditors are convinced after Luke Smith, Bungie’s Destiny lead, opened the video discussing the future.

He said, “But facing the witness is not the end of Destiny 2, and it’s definitely not the end of Destiny. After you face the witness, we’re gonna tell you what’s coming next to Destiny 2 and beyond…we’ll see you soon.”
Some time ago, Bungie discussed moving from seasonal updates to chapters which would last longer than a regular season, but there was no word on Destiny 3.
It wouldn’t come as much of a surprise if these chapters were released as part of a sequel which would completely overhaul the game and make it more accessible to newer players, something that has been difficult in Destiny 2.
Hopefully, we get some official news after the release of The Final Shape.
