Two years on, Cyberpunk 2077 players are still perplexed by one of the game's greatest mysteries, and it starts with the statue on Union Street in the centre of Night City.
A fascinating new report from Kotaku breaks it down, explaining that the alphanumeric sequence "FF:06:B5" can be found on the side of the statue. But that's just the beginning.
Check out a scene from the explosive Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime below!
There are three Buddhist monks kneeling in meditation at the base of statue. If V scans the monks, the player will find that their names change daily and if V kills the monks then clones of the original trio resume meditating the next day. This is not the only statue in the city as there are two different types of statue model - type A and type B - and 18 statues are scattered across the area. Some hold pink orbs that spark when shot.

Who cares? Kotaku does, as well as over 11,000 Cyberpunk 2077 players, if you want to put a number on it. Furthermore, quest director Paweł Sasko has said that there is a purpose to the strange statue and monks, if players are able to find it. Head on over to the FF06B5 subreddit and the "Newcomer Sticky" will provide you with the first threads of the mystery. Delve deeper and you'll be chopping through theories with your mantis blades like a very extreme game of Fruit Ninja.
A gloriously colour-coded mind map has been made by players, and I appreciate that we can't condense every single pathway here, so I'll just choose one.
So, the monks that appear at the statue on Union Street are explicitly violating the rules of Buddhist monastic code. They have ornamentation like tattoos and rings and one of their hairstyles is longer than the width of two fingers. This is surely intentional, as it is only these three NPC models that visit the statue, even when killed. The leader of the monks will say, "My apprentice! Your throat chakra is blocked! Activate the meridians on the roof of your mouth."
You know who deals in chakra realignment? Misty. Arriving at her shop shows another glyph that contains a series of numbers and letters that can be broken down into pairs, like the "FF:06:B5" sequence. With each of the pairs on a point of the hexagon, it's notable there are six instances of the type B statue and none of them are oriented north.

And, there is someone who leaps to their death just behind the "prime" statue on Union Street, and there's a flag in the game's code that follows "cs_cct_cpz_stat_002_triggered" once he falls. I don't think it's that much of a stretch that "stat" relates to "statue." Let's connect this to the collection of tarot cards that Misty has - the card for Death holds a short, angular sword. A bit like the one held by those statues.
Look, my head is spinning already, so if you want to properly submerge yourself in the conspiracy, you know where to go. Right?
