This Cyberpunk 2077 mod upscales surface textures to 4K and 8K resolution, rendering the depravity of Night City into a delicate if scudgy beauty.
Like No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk 2077 has had its renaissance, surging to the top of the Steam charts to eclipse titles like Modern Warfare II and even The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Just two weeks ago, the game saw one million active players sowing chaos in Night City and the CD Projekt Red was over the moon with the success that the team had so sorely earned following a shambolic start.

Back in February, those on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X benefitted from significant upgrades like ray tracing, faster loading times, 4K resolutions with dynamic scaling and a whole host of other visual and technical improvements. These files from modders V like tears and traitsu affect the surfaces across the city, rather than the characters, but it is incredible to see this level of photorealism in the game. I feel like if I just ran my hand across that .jpeg of the bricks I'd get a scuff on my knuckles. The mod also works to shine a light the brittle history of Night City, with the damage done to the walls that has been hastily painted over.
You'll only be able to savour these textures for a limited time. The Phantom Liberty DLC will likely make the mod incompatible once it's out as the developer will update the game to ready it for the new content. Still, there's enough time to enjoy those crunchy, crunchy surfaces in the interim.
