It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for. Ever since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III was announced, fans have been convinced that Zombies will also be making a comeback - and it looks as if we finally have our confirmation.
There’s plenty going on in the world of Call of Duty. While Modern Warfare III may have begun life as a MWII expansion, we now know that it’ll be its own standalone release. Despite Microsoft’s ongoing acquisition of Activision, PlayStation users will actually gain early access to the game. I know, that one’s a head scratcher. Sony confirmed that early access will open to PlayStation users ahead of other console platforms. The single-player campaign is set to take players back to Verdansk and the game is rumoured to feature every map from the original Modern Warfare 2, released back in 2009. Today though, we have an update on the long-awaited return of Zombies.
Take a look at the latest trailer for Modern Warfare III below.
Fans had an inkling that Zombies would return. In fact, there are so many studios working on this game that it’s suspected that it may be released as a Warzone style free-to-play experience. While that remains unconfirmed, we do know that Zombies is now making a comeback. The discovery was made by Twitter user JustOptical, and demonstrated MrDalekJD.

It turns out, if you text the word ‘Zombies’ to the official Call of Duty phone number (available in the US), you’ll be sent a link to a secret sound file. The file plays the sounds of, you guessed it, Zombies - seemingly confirming the return of the mode. Take a listen below.
I expect that in time, Activision will release a more normal teaser. Gamescom’s Opening Night Live is less than a week away - and Geoff Keighley did tease that we’ll be getting mainly updates on games that have already been announced. Modern Warfare III ticks that box. Stay tuned Zombies fans.
