With many games in the Call of Duty series to choose from, it can be quite a gruelling task to pick out a single favourite moment.
Since the series began all the way back in 2003, Call of Duty has been climbing the military ranks to become the world's most popular first-person shooter on the market, knocking the likes of Medal of Honor and Battlefield from its perch.

That being said, the series has had some inconsistencies with the likes of Call of Duty 3, and Vanguard as well as some questionable handheld releases. Still, for the most part, this series has offered over-the-top and high-octane single-player campaigns, robust multiplayer modes and for some entries, the endlessly fun Zombies mode.

However, for some, the reason that many gamers pick up the latest release is for its multiplayer offerings, and we’re not talking about the free-to-play Warzone. We’re talking about good old traditional multiplayer and perhaps no multiplayer in that respect hits quite like the OG Modern Warfare games.
Back in the day, I’d spend an incredible amount of hours playing the MW2 (2009) multiplayer. There was just something about its tight gameplay, well-thought-out maps and progression system that kept me coming back for more.
Some of my personal favourite Modern Warfare 2 maps that spring to mind include Favela, Highrise, Scrapyard, Terminal and Invasion to name a few. One other map that is the topic of recent discussion on Twitter is Wasteland. Located in Chornobyl, Wasteland is a sniper-friendly open map that spelt doom for those that attempt close-quarter combat. To be honest, this is probably why I never enjoyed this map, as I was never one for sniping.
Call of Duty fan page, CharlieIntel sparked debate on Twitter by calling Wasteland the best map in Modern Warfare 2 (2009). Each to their own, I suppose. While many fans disagreed with that opinion, many were also in agreement.

“Wasteland with a thermal Intervention *chefs kiss*,” replied barnzey23. “This map was lowkey underrated and was definitely a sniper zone,” added JTheWorm. “Chopper gunner and AC-130 were criminal on wasteland,” said STYLER97.
If you’re also a fan of the old-school Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, then you’re in luck. According to an insider, it is claimed that all the multiplayer maps from MW2 will be remastered in this year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, a reboot of the 2011 game. Happy days!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be released for PC, PlayStation and Xbox on 10 November 2023.
